We hear from Keith Gilbert who has been enjoying his autumn 10ks…
On Sunday [12 Sep] I ran The Wingham 10K, this was the second in my trio of September 10ks. It was a bit of duathlon for me since I cycled to and from the event , a round trip of 20 miles. On the way I passed a couple cycling and we exchanged the fact that we were all running at Wingham. At the event the chap told me he was vegetarian and asked me what the difference was from being vegan. He seemed quite interested when I pointed out the inherent contradictions within vegetarianism.
At the start I met up again with John the older runner from VC&AC who I met at Charing last week. The event at Wingham was a 10k and 5k race diverging at an appropriate point. An undulating but very scenic route incorporating a stretch of bridleway, it was well marshaled with four drinks stations along the way.
Results for the entire field do not seem to be available, results being broken down according to gender or age category. I came in at 54:39. 109/149 for the men’s race and 25/45 for the men’s vet 50 race. Next year will see the 25th staging of this event.
