Winchester 10k Sunday February 23rd.

No trains from Southampton to Winchester, had to rely on bus replacement thus got to Winchester later than expected, fortunately not a massive queue for Registering on the day. So time to get ready put on number and chip but not for warm up.

With recent pictures on TV of flooded River Itchen in Winchester  including area where the 10k was due to start, was not sure what sort of course revision would be implemented, surprisingly the start near the river was more or less as of previous years across a field and then on to tarmac, uphill past Winchester Football ground and out along semi rural roads on edge of town.

Thus I was expecting normal course not having been able to study map before race , so was surprised to have to run a two lap section with hills between 3k and 7k that had not been part of this route previously. Got to 2k in  8mins and 3k in 12mins 28secs so was starting to get optimistic about time, reaching 5k in 21mins 10secs but a slower second half saw me come in with a chip time of 42mins:54secs so nothing to shout about. 74th of 483 runners, Vet Male 55  3rd.
