Solid performances from the whole of the Burgess household at weekend Triathlon & Aquathons

Verna Burgess reports a 6th place for Stephen, top ten for Zack, podium place (3rd) for Nathan, a 3rd age cat and huge PB for herself, and 6th in age category for Stephen only a day after his previous race!

It was a good week-end of solid performances from the Burgess household and what a joy to be competing in glorious sunshine both Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday Stephen (15) started off at the Epping Aquathon Youth category and did 17.20 for 400m swim and 3k run. This put him 6/14 competitors. Nathan (13) and Zack (11) ended the day at the New Duston Kid’s triathlon which was so full that the planned adult registration for the next day event could not take place. Again good performances from them both in Tristar 3 and 2 categories respectively.
Zack 17.58 and 9/27
Nathan 21.01 and 3/11 – on the podium and no repeat of last time where he missed out by 1/100th of a second!
On Sunday Verna and Stephen were both in New Duston Adult Sprint event so standard distance of 400m swim/20k bike/5k run. Verna was first out and glad to be off and get the first event of the season under way. As ever the swim was fairly average but the cycling was much improved (lots of spinning must be paying off) and the running consistent. This meant a finish time of 1:19.01, a PB by nearly 9 minutes and 3rd place age category.
Stephen put in an amazing performance for an adult event and was up against a lot of talent in the male U20 category. He finished in 1:06.32 and was 6th in his age category.
Overall Verna finished  48/140 (female race)  and Stephen 80/461 (male race).
