Regents' Park Training Session, 23 oct

Ed: The change of arrangements back in August to decide on the Sunday most suitable for training over a 4/5 week period finally brought its benefits. There were eight runners present for our training session including two members at their first: Evelina Odej & Chris Caps plus David Campbell who plans to join in time to attend the AGM.

After the introductions & the photo-call we set off shortly after 11am for the warm-up group run around the sports pitches linked to the Hub. The plan for this session was to visit Primrose Hill for some hill training plus a circuit around the perimeter. The emphasis on the hill training was the downhill running with the increased length of stride that is natural to reap the benefits. Being new to the session we just had two climbs and two descents, one each from both sides. We followed that with the off-road perimeter run, the dry conditions making it comfortable.

On the way back to Regents’ Park (when we found the right exit) we took a diversion to the track to finish off with a couple of laps each in a relay of two runners of similar pace.

Back in the Hub we discussed over a drink items such as the main cross country events, the London & Brighton Marathons, the Royal Parks Half Marathon  , Evelina’s Dirt Run (Half Marathon) from Leighton Buzzard on 19 Nov and Annette’s Portsmouth Marathon.

Regarding the next training session it will be up to members to decide on the most suitable date but Peter Simpson is only likely to be available on 6 November otherwise hopefully other members could take the opportunity to lead the session. The Club is also arranging a session in Birmingham which is likely to be 27 Nov at the time of this blog and Peter is planning to be there.

Apologies to the new attendees who waited outside the Hub today getting cold, we do meet-up in The Hub upstairs. It was notable that the runners new to the session turned up on time but the regulars were delayed or late. Taking into account the extra time required to walk from the tube stations, the meet-up time was put back from 1000 to 1030 so please try to allow the extra time for future sessions here.
