For the June 2011 meet-up it was decided to select an open event that was considered achievable by most members & contacts who have supported the monthly sessions and affordable. An event that met the criteria was the Eltham Park 5 miles in South-East London, an off-road event consisting of two loops. The event is being held again and is scheduled for 10 June. Starting in Eltham Park South, after 1.5 laps of the perimeter, the course takes runners through Shepherdleas Wood and Eltham Park North with a 2nd lap before finishing in Eltham Park South. The course only includes modest climbs in Shepherdleas Wood where there are narrow paths in places.
Entry is on-line using the Runners World site
http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/events/viewevent.asp?sp=&v=2&EN=70077&ms= , the entry fee is £7.75 for members registered with England Athletics including on-line payment fee, for non-members or if you have not paid your England Athletics registration fee via another club, it costs £9.75. The 5 miles event starts at 11am otherwise there are shorter runs of 3.5K at 10.30am costing £4.75 for all runners and a 1 mile run at 10am costing £2.00.
Alternatively there is the entry form downloadable from the organising club by clicking here
Entry is also possible on the day subject to entry limits being reach.
Following the run there is the option of visiting the adjacent park kiosk or the main café at the top of Oxleas Meadow about a mile away with attractive views across the Down. Last year due to the wet & windy conditions we walked into town and visited the local COSTA.
We did visit the area in July 2010 for a training run in the Oxleas Meadow and other woodlands before settling in the Oxleas Cafe or other name.
