Leighton Buzzard, Blackminster, MK and Oxford

A lumpy sounding Blackminster Half saw Mike Tomkins finishing in the top 20 last weekend:

“Another half marathon yesterday, this time Blackminster near Evesham, they suggested it was undulating but I would prefer to err on the side of hilly after experiencing it yesterday, I finished 13th out of 245 and was on my own for a fair amount of it. Only downside a little disappointed with my time of 1 hour 27 minutes, 52 seconds although as my friend stated it was about position not time with this kind of race.”

Verna Burgess celebrated one of our rare lovely days with a PB and a win at the Leighton Buzzard 10k:

“What a fantastic morning for a run everyone. I met 5 colleagues from Tring RC my first claim club and did the Leighton Buzzard 10k. This was an undulating road route with a nasty up at 8k. I yoyo-ed with another lady all the way round but managed to pass her at 7k. I kept her behind me and came in first lady in 44.08 which is a 10k PB for me. A really nice surprise to have a £50.00 Sweatshop voucher as a prize and vegan cookies too I ran in my TRC vest but promptly donned my VR hoodie – lots of positive comments about being a vegan which were the best bit about the day.”

Meanwhile Peter was out cheering Tim Williams on to a 1:56 finish at the Milton Keynes Festival of Running Half.

Nik Windle enjoyed the sunshine while running round in circles again:

“The rescheduled Oxford Charity 10k, defected to Abingdon, today was fun if not very serious. We were to run 4 times round the track (fast) then 4 times round Tilsley Park perimeter (slow, uncut grass, horrible camber) then 1 more lap of the track.

It wasn’t made very clear to all at the start that we were to count our own laps and quite a few runners seemed to settle for just 2 or 3 times round the track. In my usual daze I wasn’t quite sure if I’d done 3 or 4 so did a 5th just to make sure.

I suspect the results will be silly but hard not to enjoy the event on such a lovely day and considering their bad luck with flooding then withdrawal of permission at the original Oxford venue I reckon the organisers deserve credit for not just taking the easy option and cancelling. I did about 52:30 for the 10k plus another 2 minutes for the bonus lap I think.”
