We hear from Keith Gilbert who has been boiling (not baking)(though possibly also steaming!) in Kent…
On Sunday [23 May] I ran the Pilgrim’s Hospices Canterbury Half Marathon. The course organized by 2:09 Events is a very scenic and very hilly one, passing through the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It was a hot day, the hottest day of the year ,but bottled water was provided regularly throughout the race. I accepted the offer to have a jug of cold water poured over my head at a drinks station, most refreshing! It is a tough course, with much climbing, and a particularly severe hill coming in at 10 miles, when you least want it . Even the last 1/4 mile to the finish was on an upward incline .I’ve been doing this one since 1990 and I am always glad that I have .I was hoping to come in sub 2, but came in 2:05:50 my slowest half ever .482nd out of 805 finishers.
Still pretty good in that weather – Ed
