Brooks Serpentine New Years Day 10k Hyde Park

The ambition to hit the ground running for 2014 and get a good 10k time under the belt. Having run this event last year in 42:07 the hope was 41mins this time. The weather conditions on the day made me realise early on that I was probably not going to achieve a good time.

By train up from Southampton arriving to a wet and windy Hyde Park.  Stand in queue in middle of park to get number and then again for baggage drop. Having had a chest problem for most of November opted to keep my anorak on plus lycra leggings. I was losing interest fast.

Getting to start line, met up  with Erik Seabold who was in full Vegan Runner regalia. He has been improving over this distance, so expected him to do a good time, he did not disappoint  coming in 63rd  in 40mins 32secs. Excellent run in the conditions.

Erik Seabold   63rd  in 40mins 32secs

For me a disaster, got the pace wrong, failing  to cope with the stretches hindered with strong head winds. I have never found myself able to regain the ground when wind on my back. Hope to do another 10k soon to rectify.

Sidney DeLara 130th in 44mins 31secs  ( V55 3rd).

582 runners completed the course.
