Lots of Vegan Runners spent a wet and windy last Sunday of March running half marathons.
Jonathan Ryan managed to avoid being blown out to sea at Dover finishing in 1:47:25
‘Black and green vest did its magic again on Saturday. Very tough race at Port of Dover half – it was flat but the wind was horrid and the cross winds on the pier were a nightmare.
But…..I was wearing my magic vest so I battled on and was totally amazed when they told me I had actually finished 5th! It was a small field but I’m still pretty happy with that.’
David Anderson and Kerri Turner ran the Northumberland Half. David managing a PB with 1:25:39 finishing 16th of 394 overall, Kerri finished 350th in 2:11:17
Lesley Connors, Barry Wheller and Ian Moran ran the Liverpool Half, Lesley reports:
‘Did the Liverpool half today, 1:40.02. Very pleased with that. A lovely run too, until mile 11 where I tripped and twisted my foot (hoping it doesn’t derail my marathon training). Lovely to see a fellow vegan runner there too. If you’re reading this -how did you do!?’
Barry:
‘It was slightly wet! Much better this year than last when it was dry, but ridiculous headwinds all along the prom for the last 4 miles’
- Lesley Connors 1:40:02 934th of 4990 overall
- Ian Moran 1:48:08 1671st
- Barry Wheller 1:52:21 2166th
Nik Windle got blown about and rinsed at the White Horse Half where VRUK’s Maria Hamilton was marshalling, Nik says:
‘Really wet and windy White Horse Half for me today – not so bad for the first few miles with a crosswind and even a tailwind at times but got the full force of it when we turned west at mile 6 and a hefty downpour about mile 9. Reasonably happy with 1:54 considering the conditions. Earworm for most of the race was Neil Young’s ‘Like a Hurricane” 🙂
Maria:
‘Did you not notice the marshal at the start of the finish lane going, “THAT WAY TO THE FINISH YOU ****ERS oh hello Nick well done NO NOT THAT WAY oh dear God’ 😉
