Tonbridge Half Marathon, 22 Sept

Brief Report by Peter Simpson

At the 2012 event that VRUK targeted, we managed a strong men’s team and achieved 2nd team prize after our 2nd runner was originally not recorded. Given that members traveled from far and wide to make the event, it was going to be difficult to repeat the turnout, especially at a busy time on the running calendar. I was also injured otherwise would have entered if not full at the time.

It turned out that only Chris Shoebridge, one of his local events, was on the start line. It was a cloudy but warmish day for a half marathon. A reminder that the course is undulating if not hilly otherwise from about 5 – 8 miles the course is fairly flat and similarly in the last mile or so. There is great support in the village of Leigh and with the course closed to traffic, the runners feel safe. Chris was running with a cold so not going to produce his best otherwise he sprinted to the line overtaking a number runners to ensure he finished under 1.45. Well done Chris!
