The Weald of Kent 10 Mile 2010

Keith Gilbert from Canterbury gets in touch…

On Sunday [27 June] I ran The Weald of Kent 10. Organized by Maidstone Harriers. This was a new one for me and a very hot one! Starting at 11:00 we were all exposed to the midday sun! I have  always kept my 10 miles sub 90 but Sunday was the exception. Everything was fine for the first 4 miles, Garmin reading av pace around 8:20 min/miles ,but then meltdown got me. Loitering at two drinks stations for some serious rehydration put me off course and I finished in 1:41:19 after a hosing down with cold water at mile 9. Many runners seemed to be suffering and I noticed an ambulance team were administering oxygen to someone at HQ. Still it was a very scenic course with a very friendly and supportive crowd all round.
So until The Mount Ephraim 10K on 11 July,
                                                                                           ..[good luck! Ed]
