The St Alphege Run.-24 February 2013- Keith Gilbert

This was basically a linear 7.5 mile multi-terrain fun run between St Alphege Church in Whitstable to Canterbury Cathedral. It was organized by a lady who is a regular runner at Whitstable Parkrun to raise some funds for her church and commemorate the millennium death of St Alphege, an early Archbishop of Canterbury.

The run was originally scheduled for January, but was cancelled almost at the last minute owing to heavy snowfall. However this Sunday the snow was back with us, albeit less so.The run was mainly off road, following the Crab & Winkle Way, part of National Cycle Route No:1 [John “o” Goats to Dover] snow had settled on the ground, plus  regular flurries.

I finished at The Cathedral in 1:15:56 [ I’m a bit off form at present]. There was a good reception inside, with tea and coffee on offer, and other snacks available. I changed into my Vegan Runner’s hoody for warmth, so it can be said that VRUK clothing can be seen in the best of places! There was an official photograph session in the grounds, so a bit of PR there. Maybe it will be in the local paper or perhaps some Anglican journal.

A very cold and somewhat bleak run, but worth doing.
