Due to another runner having to drop out during the week , I entered this event on the number transfer scheme at the last minute. As opposed to the horrible wind and rain at my previous 10k outing this year at Hyde Park on New Years Day , this morning the weather was pleasant and sunny in Southern Hampshire. The car I was travelling in was involved in a minor traffic accident on the way but this only incurred a delay of 15 minutes to sort out. Although this time loss was to mean no warm up possible before start.
A big field of over 1,500 runners creates the obvious congestion at the start but was into my own stride pace by about 400metres with little further disruption. A mildly undulating course along fairly rural roads going along a seafront stretch opposite the Isle of Wight at 6-8k. Felt I was running a lot better than at Hyde Park and no head wind to contend with. Thus I came in over 2 minutes quicker. So moving in the right direction.
