Peter Simpson reports on his first significant event since returning to training two weeks ago following a break of 8 weeks. The Rugby 6 miles is a midweek event that I have run many times and is popular with club runners. The conditions were ideal, starting at a modest pace with the first hill in our favour and picked places as the race progressed. The toughest part of the course was the long climb approaching 5 miles thereafter flat to the finish with 100 metres or so on grass adjacent to the rugby fields. Halfway times were being read out and Peter’s time was 21.22, the finish time published later was 43:43 so obviously the hill had an impact. Probably my slowest time for this course otherwise satisfied with the consistent performance and no injury problems.
