Fantastic result for Verna Burgess last weekend, she reports:
‘I completed the NiceTri London Brik Olympic distance triathlon near Bedford today. Amazing conditions again – it is so lovely to get into warm water for starters. I have completed about 20 sprint triathlons/duathlons but this was my first standard which is double the distance. I had no idea what to expect. The individual distances are easy for me but putting it all together ………especially when I have not upped brick sessions in length (not SMART prep but heyho).
Overall it all went like clockwork. I had a simple race plan – stay out of trouble on the swim, have gels on alternate bike laps to help me count and do 8 min miles on the run. I had a target of 3 hours (could live with that) smashed, 2.45 target (secretly hoped for) smashed and my final time was 2.37.48 and second in age cat.
This was a new location for NiceTri events and it was excellent. Fast and flat with quiet roads and good facilities. It is also nice to get goodies and all competitors got a race belt, mug and Treacle Moon shower gel (vegan yippee). I am sure this event will be much bigger in 2015.’
