Report & Photo by Peter Simpson
|Training in Memory of Andrew Spencer Taylor
There were six VRUK members including Marie Thuren who just missed the photo-call. Most of us arrived arrived just as the 1st Sun of the month 10K was in full flow and the location of the Hub is ideal to view it from the cafe. Jon & Marie collected their club vest and were meeting members for the 1st time if correct. After a cool start it soon warmed up. David had completed the Vitruvian half-ironman in Rutland only the day before so took it easy. Peter was concerned about his recent injuries so we ran mostly off-tarmac. As normal we had the opportunity of getting to know members we have not previously met or catching up on activities. We all finished OK despite my concern when feeling some knee pain descending Primrose Hill (the less steep side).
Afterwards we returned to the Hub cafe to catch up on further club news and Peter raised the various cross country championship events that had recently been confirmed. The XC champs have also been added to the diary and highlighted in blue. Note that you do not need to be a championship level runner to enter for VRUK. A reminder that the club can only register with one English region where the club address is based and that is the South of England AA otherwise all registered members can enter these SEAA events. The English National XC alternates between the regions and in 2014 will be held in the Midlands at Wollaton Park, Nottingham on 22 February. The National XC Relay Champs are also held in the Midlands at the regular venue of Berry Hill Park, Mansfield on 2 November. More details of all events will be e-mailed to members otherwise you can visit the SEAA and ECCA websites. Note that entry to most of the events is via the Club Secretary.
