Report from Helen Watkinson:
|Left: Helen Watkinson, Cedric David and Ruth Newman
It was a beautiful day, blue skies and hardly any wind at the coast and I was feeling really good and confident.
I managed to keep with a steady pace and being 2 laps of the half marathon course (that we did in March) it didn’t seem that far! You go out for just over 3 miles to the west along the coast then back to start, then out for about 3 miles to the east along the coast then back to the start before you do it all again!! So you never seem that far away from the start/finish which for me was a good thing.
There where a few ‘undulations’ (more like hills!) over railway tracks and roads which obviously seemed to get steeper and steeper on each round but it felt good.
I finished in 3hr 42.18 which I’m really really pleased about (PB by 28mins!!) 6th out of 22 in age category.
Cedric also got a PB of about 22 mins with a finishing time of 3.23.45. 26th out of 108 in age category
We where also joined by Ruth Newman, who also ran a great race with a fab time of 3hr 54.28. 14th out of 36 in age category.
We had a brief meet up at the end with a photo – attached.
I’m having trouble walking at the moment as well as sitting, standing, going up and down stairs….basically anything involving movement but it’s a good feeling! Will take a few days off before I start thinking about our 50mile ultra in May but I’m feeling confident about that now.
