Rafal Tkaczyk got hot, hilly and lost while still managing a good time for his first ultra:
‘I run my first ultra today, the Chiltern Challenge Ultra 50k. As the name suggest it was in the amazing Chiltern Hills, through forests, wheat fields, hills etc. About 1000m elevation gain which together with hot, humid weather made it very challenging. For the first time I didn’t really go for any finish time so I just took it really easy and completed in nearly 6 hours. My garmin’s battery died so I don’t know exactly but I didn’t really care today. I must say I really liked the comradery, chatting with people during the race and at checkpoints. I also got lost with a group of people so some time was wasted there.’
