Beachy Head marathon – 25th Oct – Verna reports

Verna Burgess says:
A beautiful day with  glorious sunshine saw me in Eastbourne running the Beachy Head marathon on Saturday 25th October 2008. A seriously tough course with many ascents and descents, culminating in the Severn Sisters. It is all off road. Training had gone according to plan apart from a niggling calf and hip injury but the final week saw me go down with a heavy cold. I pondered pulling out but decided to go for it as this is a flagship event for my local and first claim club (Tring RC). This is an inspiring course and I managed 4.52. I shall return next year! The main downside for vegans is that none of the free food at the checkpoints (and there is masses) is suitable for us although I did manage to find to find a baked potato at the end. I saw no Vegan Runners vests but perhaps a group could be tempted along next year?
