Abingdon Marathon, 20 October

I was photo snapped double checking my Garmin at the finish of Abingdon Marathon last Sunday, and yes it was a PB 03:40:45! It was a friendly race, and well organised, with really supportive marshals (thanks Nik Windle!) Good fun, but I find the scenery at road races pretty uninspiring…who really wants to run around an out of town business park! I’m running another trail marathon in a few weeks, so am looking forward to that a lot!

…from mile 15 my cruciate ligament injury flared up (anyone out there that has torn this ligament will know it’s an excruciating pain) but thankfully I adapted my running stride and by mile 20 it eased off. Very happy, had a great race that aside. (Ed: finished in 3.50)

Nice to see Alex and Shelley both running happy and strong at todays Abingdon Marathon. There was one prolonged shower but a good bit of sun as well so not as bad as forecast. I very much enjoyed marshalling – great way to be part of the race without messing up your legs.

[ Editor comments: Shelley’s achievement was after only a break of 2 weeks since the Bournemouth where she was only about a minute faster so, very consistent performances! ]
Confirmation of results:
Alex Portwine 3.40.45, position 342
Shelley Van Der Berg 3.50.48, position 410
