A Marathon Championship Qualifying Time

Simon Dally Reports on his Best Marathon Performance

I finished in 2:44:55 in the London Marathon, a personal best by over 12 minutes. Something of a milestone for me, as I have been targeting sub 2:45 for some time. My first London marathon and I really enjoyed it. A strong team performance all round from the Vegan Runners UK team with great support from the crowd. Great exposure of the club and for the vegan diet. Fantastic support as well from my family and friends as well as non-participating vegan runners who came out to cheer and to meet us at the end.
On a personal note, I had been targeting a time closer to 2:40 and ran the first half at that sort of pace. But I couldn’t maintain it, slowed considerably after 20 miles and nearly paid for my over-ambitious start at the end, just sneaking in under 2:45. That gets me a guaranteed “championship” place at London for the next two years, so really pleased about that.
