Report from Peter Simpson on VRUK stall at the Brighton VegfestUK, 17 & 18 March.

The first 2-day Brighton event turned out to be our best of the four festivals held to date. We recruited 6 new members and 3 renewals during the event with possibly more to follow from interested visitors to our stall. We also sold 12 items of clothing and 14 items of literature. Overall taking £355. We were also using the event to raise funds for Tower Hill Stables Animal Sanctuary run by Fiona Oakes and raising awareness of Fiona’s Marathon des Sables event in the African desert over 150+ miles in 6 days. Lots of literature on the sanctuary was taken otherwise we raised £35 in cash.

Many members gave their assistance and others paid us a visit either to renew or give the club support. Special thanks to Dave Arnold and Paul Loader who contributed many hours either behind the stall or building up to the event. The Club also appreciated the help on the stall from Sam Wilson, Jonathan Wilkes, Anna and briefly from Cherryl and Eve We used a digital photo frame for the first time and it was a steep learning curve for Dave who was working into the night on the Friday configuring the system. Overall it worked well but visitors to the stall appeared to be more interested in talking to the Club representatives to find out more information. The Sports Nutrition Guide for Vegans once again sold well. We also focused on a local meet-up group co-ordinated by Dave for the Hove Park Run with about 30 visitors signing up.
