Wingham 10K – 9 September 2012- Keith Gilbert.

On Saturday I cycled the round trip of 19 miles to run for my fourth time, The Wingham 10k in East Kent.

This is quite a well established event, organized by Wingham Trotters. Last year they celebrated their 25th race. It’s a very scenic and rural event with a course full of undulations, nothing too severe, but it was a very warm day and the course seemed more of a challenge than usual.

John and myself at last year’s Wingham 10k’s 25th run.

I was pleased to meet again John Munston, the 75+ runner from The Vegetarian Cycling and Athletic Club who I first met at The Charing 10K three years ago.

After the first few kms I noted I was running at 5 min+ Kms, so no pbs today; although I was surprised  to find I was able to overtake quite a few runners during the race, a number had resorted to walking. I think the heat was affecting many people.

I was given a finish time of 54:09, course pb- 51:34 [2011]  No overall positions are give for this event, but I was listed as 77/128 in the men’s race, and 10/21 in the 50-59 men’s category. Overall position- 89/192 by my own calculation!

On Sunday I’m off to Faversham for their 10K race.

                                                                                Cheers, Keith.
