Box Hill Fell Race

Well done Verna Burgess and John Bateson for completing the tendon stretching Box Hill Fell Race last Saturday!

John says:

John Bateson at Box Hill 2014“Box Hill Fell Race, as hard and as beautiful as I remember from a few years back. This year I went a little slower and suffered a little less. 61 and a bit minutes for 7.2 miles – it’s a hard route…. Not a sterling performance, and very tentative downhilling, but thanks to size of the field and the narrowness of the categories, I was 3rd placed m40. Lovely to see some old friends from Guildford and Godalming AC and a new one; — with Verna Burgess.”

Verna reports:

“I was at Boxhill yesterday morning to complete in this very popular event – it usually fills in a matter of days, partly because it only costs £5.00 to enter! It is an event in my other club’s (Tring) off road champs and it was the first time I had got round to doing it. Hilly I was expecting and the mud too, plus very slippy descents in the conditions . It is 7.3 miles and my time was 76 mins 12 sec. I was 144/257, 15/56 female and 3rd FV50 – beaten by a matter of seconds by 2 other Tring FV50s. It was good fun and I quite enjoyed it. I saw John Bateson too at the start and it was good to have some VR support.”
